Artist's biography

Norberto Spina (1995) is an artist who lives and works in London, where he is in his final year at the Royal Academy Schools. Raised in Milan, he earned a degree in Painting from the Accademia di Brera.

Norberto Spina's artistic practice is rooted in an intertwining of personal and collective memory, fueled by the search for archival images, ancient family photographs, moments of everyday life, and historical and religious iconographies from Italian popular tradition. These elements are reworked and layered in a painting process that defies rigid definitions. His works manifest as fragments of memories, elusive and difficult to grasp; on the canvas, compositions emerge from oblique strokes and incisive brushwork using oil, acrylic, and marker. This continuous interplay of construction and negation gives rise to a wounded image, revealed precisely by being pushed to the limits through a long and complex process of layering.
