Alessandro Fogo, born in Thiene in 1992, lives and works in San Benedetto del Tronto. After graduating from the Art High School, he continued his studies at IUAV in Venice, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts. In 2017, he obtained a Master’s in Painting from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. His artistic research focuses on elements that, extracted from their usual context, generate ambiguity and disorientation, paving the way for new narrative possibilities.
Alessandro Fogo explores the deep connection between art and myth through a body of paintings that synthesize his imaginative universe. In his works, the ancient and the modern coexist in a dialogue between high art and pressing contemporary issues, renewing iconological and formal traditions. The mythical element emerges strongly in his figurations, revealing unexpected and surprising outcomes.
Fogo employs refined techniques to explore the complexity of human existence and the surrounding world. His works reflect an enigmatic dimension, amplified by the skillful use of colors—sometimes cool, sometimes vibrant—and by unsettling, at times frightening, visions. These visions thus become a testing ground to question the meaning of representation, the essence of painting itself, and its necessity.
Regarding his work, Fogo stated: "While I paint, I often reflect on the relationship between the everyday and the sacred. It is like a game between what is near and what is far, a continuous oscillation between closeness and distance. I start from an aspiration related to the sacred, something seemingly distant, and I try to bring it into a familiar dimension, which appears known but, upon closer inspection, eludes."
