KHOJ, International Artists' Association, is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting contemporary art and emerging artists in South Asia. Founded in 1997 in New Delhi by a group of artists including Anita Dube, Subodh Gupta, Bharti Kher, Manisha Parekh, and current director Pooja Sood, KHOJ is based in Malviya Nagar, New Delhi. Its cooperative model is inspired by artist-led workshops held in the UK and Africa, supported by the Triangle Arts Trust in London.
Initially conceived as an annual workshop by artists, KHOJ aimed to create dialogue among artistic practices from South Asia, Latin America, and Africa, challenging the dominant Euro-American cultural approach. Over the years, KHOJ has evolved into a catalyst for networking among diverse artistic communities, facilitating the development of creative spaces and collaborations across the subcontinent.
In 2000, KHOJ launched the South Asia Network for the Arts (SANA), which promotes the exchange of ideas and practices among artists from various geographies and cultures. This inclusive vision has contributed to the establishment of art studios in several South Asian cities, including Vasl in Karachi (Pakistan), Theertha in Colombo (Sri Lanka), Britto in Dhaka (Bangladesh), and Sutra in Kathmandu (Nepal).
KHOJ believes in the intrinsic value of art for society, viewing it as a form of inquiry that provides unique perspectives and fosters change through emotional engagement. Through its programs, KHOJ supports emerging, experimental, and transdisciplinary creative practices, creating global connections and solidarity with a particular focus on the South Asian subcontinent.
